Importing and scaling the imported BeerXML recipe into BeerSmith for your brewing system is a piece of cake! Here is what you need to do, step by step.
Step 1 – Download File

Browse to the recipe of your choice, click the ‘Download this recipe’s BeerXML file’ link, and save it to the location of your choice.
Step 2 – Open File
![Open BeerSmith and select File -> Open File...](https://i0.wp.com/www.fivebladesbrewing.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Screen-Shot-2015-09-15-at-6.23.57-PM.png?resize=1024%2C453&ssl=1)
Open BeerSmith and select ‘File -> Open File…’ and select the file downloaded from Step 1.
Step 3 – Copy Recipe
![Copy](https://i0.wp.com/www.fivebladesbrewing.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Screen-Shot-2015-09-15-at-6.29.54-PM.png?resize=1024%2C503&ssl=1)
Select the imported recipe and copy it via CTRL/⌘+c.
Go into the recipe folder of your choice and paste it via CTRL/⌘+v.
Step 4 – Scale Recipe
![Scale](https://i0.wp.com/www.fivebladesbrewing.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/Screen-Shot-2015-09-15-at-5.48.37-PM1.png?resize=963%2C1024&ssl=1)
With the recipe open click the ‘Scale Recipe’ button in the upper left. Select your system from the ‘Equipment’ dropdown and optionally adjust the size and efficiency.
You should now have the a recipe that has been scaled to the specifics of your brewing system. If you are anything like me you will want to go in and clean up the numbers a bit so you are not left with, say, 7.9 oz of an ingredient.
Happy brewing!
